Your body changed.
Your dream gown
doesn’t have to.
If you’re on a weight loss journey during your engagement, we’ve been in your corner — before it was a story on the news.
As seen on
Here’s what we told CNN — and what every bride should know.
GLP-1 medications are changing how brides approach the gown buying process. The industry hasn’t caught up. We have.
At Loved Twice Bridal, we’ve been navigating these conversations with brides for years — long before it became a national story. Here’s what you need to know before you buy.
The things your boutique may not tell you.
All sales are final — and always have been.
That’s industry standard, not fine print. What’s changed is how unpredictable a bride’s measurements can be between the order date and wedding day.
GLP-1s are new for many brides — so the outcome isn’t known.
If you’re on a weight loss medication for the first time during your engagement, there’s no track record to predict how much you’ll lose or where on your body. Timing a gown purchase is genuinely difficult.
Contracts are changing across the industry.
Boutiques are now adding weight-loss clauses to protect both sides. If your boutique hasn’t mentioned this, ask. Understanding what’s covered — and what isn’t — matters before you sign.
Be honest with your bridal stylist.
At this point, GLP-1 use is not a surprise to us. We’ve heard it, we’ve seen it, and we’re here to help — not judge. The more honest you are about where you are in your journey, the better we can guide you toward the right gown at the right time.
As a safety net, a gown can be altered down two sizes.
Think of two sizes as the reasonable limit. Beyond that, you’re looking at significantly more time, effort, and cost to make it work — and at some point, you have to ask yourself: is it worth it? Sometimes the honest answer is no, and the smarter move is to recoup what you can on the gown rather than pour more money into alterations. Just know that recouping the full amount is unlikely, and don’t wait to sell your current gown before buying your next one — there’s no guarantee of when, or if, it will sell.
Sometimes the alteration isn’t worth it.
We know that’s hard to hear. But if you’ve lost significantly more weight than expected and your gown is well beyond two sizes off, it’s worth doing the math before committing to an expensive alteration. Ask your seamstress for a realistic quote — then weigh that against what you might recoup by putting the gown on consignment.
What to know about consigning
Recouping the full original price of a gown is unlikely. Consignment is about recovering a meaningful portion — not a guarantee of a full return. Go in with realistic expectations and a clear understanding of what you paid vs. what the market will bear.
Don’t wait to find your next gown
This is important: do not hold off buying a new gown until your first one sells. There is no guaranteed timeline for a consignment sale. If you need a gown for your wedding day, treat the search as independent from the sale. We can help you with both — at the same time.
There’s a smarter way to navigate this.
Lost weight? Consign your gown.
If your gown no longer fits and can’t be altered, you don’t have to absorb the full loss. Put it on consignment with us — we’ll find it a bride who loves it, and you’ll recoup money toward your next gown.
